Convenient Beach Access

Bandon Beach is lovely for combing, picnicking, sunning, swimming (though it’s cold!), or just walking. Steps down to this wide, sandy beach with caves and stunning rock outcroppings are located at Face Rock State Scenic Viewpoint, just four houses south. At low tide, there are fascinating tide pools and sometimes many colorful starfish around the bases of the rocks. (But be mindful that it is illegal to take live marine specimens from the beach.) If you wish to ride on the beach, horses can be rented from stables on Beach Loop Drive south of our vacation house. Face Rock is also the location of the labyrinths on the beach, Circles in the Sand. (You can check out the schedule at their website www.sandypathbandon.com)

Markets

Stock up on groceries at McKays Market on Highway 101, just north of 11th Street, or Ray’s Food Place. Additionally, our area contains fantastic local fish markets. You can visit a shopping center at the north end of town on Highway 101 and Highway 42. There is a Farmers Market at the Old Town Marketplace on Friday and Saturday, most of the year.

Shopping

There are some unusual shops specializing in cranberry sweets, myrtle wood products, stained glass, weaving, wool, crafts, quilting and more. In the restored Old Town section, you’ll find many small shops, several terrific restaurants, an art gallery, a museum, and a visitor’s information center. Face Rock Creamery is an award-winning cheese factory with windows to view the cheese production, as well as tasty cheese samples and lunch specials.
